  • Create week 4's task / assignment webpage.
  • Download the application programs (internet VB tools) sent to us under Directory setup.new.
  • Examine the functions/components in each of the tools.
  • Found that the current application program for Crescent Internet Toolpak was out of date (3.01) and went to download a newer trial version (4.0) @ http://crescent.progress.com/n-download.html
  • Tried out every of the components within the 3 different programs - Crescent Internet Toolpak, Distinct VIT FTP & TCP/IP and IP*Works! Visual Basic Edition, concentrating on the two major functions like FTP and HTTP.
  • Briefly analyze the pros and cons of each of the internet tools.
  • Attended a talk and video presentation by Mr Tralvex Yeap  on "Prevailing technologies for Intelligent Systems: Neural Networks" at the Third Country Training Programme (TCTP) for MIS delegates. (1hr)
  • Also followed by a seminar on "Applications in Neural Networks" by a Japanese speaker, Dr. T. Ohira. (1hr 15 mins)

  • Read VB mailing list sent to personal account.
  • Gather information on first internet VB tool from "Crescent Division of ProgressSoftware".
  • Test out Crescent Internet's FTP and HTTP components again and evaluated on them.
  • Found that both are suitable and very user-friendly (easy to use). Help guide is also provided.
  • Locate second internet VB tool website - "Distinct VIT (Visual Internet Toolkit)" and gather information from there.
  • Test out Distinct VIT's FTP Client and Server. Found that it's too difficult to use and that there is no HTTP component provided.
  • Locate final internet VB tool website - "IP*Works! Visual Basic Edition". Look for relevant information about the tool.
  • Evaluated the FTP and HTTP component. Found that both are more user-friendly than the first tool but due to the coding problems, the application cannot work and has to end halfway.
  • Print out Source code of Crescent Internet Websearch to analyze their method of searching the web.
  • Received KRDL's email id and password. Re-subscribe VB mailing list to the new email account - [email protected].
