Weekly Summary of Task / Assignment

This was my first week of orientation at Kent Ridge Digital Labs (KRDL). Although there were many interesting event, there was one that excited me most, which was to create webpages for our project called "Autonomous Biblographic Building Agent". I had the chance to use Microsoft FrontPage 98 to create them.

The   webpages to be created and project, are to be completed during my attachment here from 6th July to 16th October 1998 (exactly 15 weeks) under the supervision of both my Supervisor, Mr Tralvex Yeap and my Laison Officer, Mrs Ho-Tan Liang Gek. I felt that the reason for creating them is to record and inform others especially to my supervisor on the progress and involvement on the project mentioned above.

So, why do I have an interest in this task? Well, it simply gives and allows me to express the artistic side of me, to allow more websurfers to obtain these valuable information (Robocup) and also allow me to present the information which I will be gathering.

Creating webpages using MS FrontPage 98 is a simple method. This programme is very user-friendly. It is a web creation and management tool that requires no programming knowledge but is robust enough for experienced web developers. FrontPage 98 has everything you need to design and build a great-looking, easy to navigate World Wide Web site. During my usage on this programme for the past three days, I noticed that the function "Target" which interlink information within a page wasn't present, making that a disadvantage to this software.

As I am still unfamiliar with this software, it will still take me some time to fully understand as well as explore all the functions hopefully by the end of this month.

My other tasks are:

• Learning to use Visual Basic 5.0, which I find that it is much easier to write the program & codes than Pascal and Foxpro (the ones that I had learned before).

• Read articles/presentation on Text Mining, which is analyzing collections of  documents & information to distinguish the useful domain terms.
